Ninja Goat Ludicrous Blend – 100% Shade Grown and Organic Coffee

$17.50 – subscription plans available from $17.50 $15.75 every 2 weeks

The perfect compliment to fatCoffee, Ninja Goat Ludicrous Blend is ludicrously smooth, rich and very low-acid.

We start with 100% organic Guatemalan coffee, gently grown in the shade and lovingly hand-picked. Hand-roasted and bagged within weeks of being picked, the Ludicrous Blend is a step beyond Organic: they are “Bird-Friendly”, having met the strictest standards of The Smithsonian Institute’s Migratory Bird Center. No “mostly organic” or “somewhat shade-grown.” The Smithsonian’s standards require 100% adherence from farm to bag.

This blend is only available by subscription, but you can start with a one-month subscription (you won’t be renewed automatically.)

Product Description

Imagine your perfect climate: the temperature just the way you like it, exactly as much light as you prefer, the sounds around you a perfect match for your mood. Now imagine the exact opposite. That’s what coffee plants experience when they’re planted in full sun, as more than three-quarters of the world’s coffee is grown.

A typical coffee plantation with rolling hills of neatly-lined rows of coffee plants exposed to the full sun
This looks nice, doesn’t it? Actually, those coffee plants are hot, stressed, and bitter

What happens when you put a coffee plant out in the blazing sun, arrayed on a hillside in neat little rows? Well, two things:

  • You can fit more coffee plants into a smaller space, and get more beans
  • It stresses the hell out of the coffee plants. They get very irritable

Ever wonder what stressed-out coffee plants make? Bitter coffee beans. And I don’t mean that figuratively: the high sun exposure literally increases the acidic profile of the coffee berries, and the beans inside of them.

Coffee is a shade-loving plant. It wants occasional sun, and prefers a cooler, moister atmosphere:

A picture of a typical shade-grown coffee farm, with trees of varying heights and species, and coffee plants discretely tucked among them in the shade.
Can you spot the coffee plant? If you’re having a hard time, it’s because coffee plants like to camp out in the shade.

There is, quite simply, no better way to raise coffee plants. Better tasting coffee comes from beans maturing slowly in the shade.

What’s the equivalent of “100% grass-fed” for coffee?

That’s easy. Shade-grown.

Coffee plants that are grown in the shade create richer, smoother, less-acidic berries, and coffee beans with a profile that is completely unlike anything you’ve ever had.

For as long as I’ve been making fatCoffee, I’ve wanted to offer a coffee that was just as premium as the butter I used. 100% grass-fed organic butter deserves a 100% shade-grown organic coffee!
